Amelia Mclelland-Brown

Amelia is an emerging artist from Cornwall. She uses many different mediums but her main practice is ceramics, with a special interest in slipware ceramics and traditional ceramic practice blended with her unique illustrations based around Cornwall. 

“Newlyn pot: I’ve spent a lot of time in Newlyn and seem to end up there when I have a free moment. I find it such an inspiring place, as many artists do, and enjoy sitting and watching the boats trudge in and out, and hearing fishermen chat on the pier, I do not use reference imagery in my work, so each illustration is from motifs stored in my brain from watching Newlyn go by or self referenced from my own sketches of the place, Newlyn pot is made with terracotta and yellow ochre decorative slip.

Jug for Penwith:

This piece is based around traditional solstice jugs, these often used for pouring the celebration drink for the sun rising, solstice is my favourite day of the year, this year I spent it in West Penwith, and to mark that, this jug was created with my favourite landmarks of Penwith, Men-an-tol, Longships Lighthouse and Lanyon Quoit, amongst other drawings such as a chough, and the Golowan day Oss, this jug was made with terracotta and blue slip.”
